Milpitas, Santa Clara County
Milpitas incorporated in 1954, and a year later Ford opened an assembly plant that built cars and trucks here until 1983. The factory was converted into the Great Mall, which opened in 1994 and is one of the largest shopping centers in Northern California. Technology companies fill the business parks around it, and the name Milpitas comes from a Spanish term for little cornfields.
